The CFR Court, Ute Mountain Ute Tribe provides a fair and impartial outcome to matters requiring the services of the Court and its staff. It will uphold the law, as prescribed in the Law and Order Code of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe to ensure that justice has been obtained within the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation, not only to the members of the Tribe but to all others living and passing through our reservation.

Effective June 15, 2020, the Court of Indian Offenses issued an Administrative Order for Telephonic Hearings due to continuing public health concerns, all court hearings will be conducted telephonically until further notice. Any person who is a party in any court case set for hearing before the Court is directed to contact the Court by telephone at conference call line 1-888-204-5987 with access code 616-6190 on the date and time set for hearing to appear and be heard. Due to COVID-19 the following mandatory guidelines are in effect under further notice as follows:
HOURS OF OPERATION:
CFR Court is open telephonically only Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm (closed on Tribal Governmental holidays and National holidays)

NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC - CFR COURT CFR Courthouse is temporary Closed to the Public and all court hearings are held daily telephonically, until further notice.

On March 13, 2020, the Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Council issued a Declaration of Emergency in response to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in an effort to minimize the risk that the disease will contaminate the Tribal communities.

COURT CLOSURE.TRAINING September 26-30. Hearings for Incarcerated individuals are heard telephonically daily

Effective, October 1, 2021, and continuing until further notice and order of the court, the CFR Court shall continue to only hear cases that directly affect public safety or are mandated to be heard pursuant to the Code of Federal Regulations and Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Code, such cases include:

1. Petitions for protection orders;

2. First appearance advisements for incarcerated persons and the setting of bail;

3. Posting Bond for incarcerated individuals;

4. Revocation hearings involving an incarcerated defendant;

5. Proceedings necessary to protect the rights of criminal defendants, pursuant to the Indian Civil Rights Act and the Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Code;

6. Detention hearings for juvenile delinquency cases;

7. Dependency and neglect cases, as required by the Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Code;

8. Involuntary commitment hearings;

9. At-risk adult or juvenile hearings, if emergency;

10. Emergency custody matter or other domestic issues requiring immediate attention;

11. Bench trials, if the trial can be conducted remotely or in a manner reasonably safe enough for the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe and its employees; and

12. 0ther proceedings deemed necessary by a CFR Court Magistrate to protect the health, safety or welfare of an individual or members of the community

Custody Orders shall remain in place unless modified by Court Order.

Probation shall maintain services, and will provide instructions to probationers on any changes during this COVID pandemic while maintaining the CDC guidelines. Please contact the Probation Officer Lula Pezeshk (970) 759-2770 or Cedric Lang (970) 560- 0195 for further information.

Until further notice new petitions can be faxed and/or mailed and will be held until payment is received by the CFR Court. If no payment has been received within 10 days after the petition was faxed and/or mailed it will be returned to sender. If filing a motion to waive the filing fee, it must accompany the petition to waive the fee and be approved by the Magistrate before it is accepted into the record. Court fax number: (970) 564-9834
